Anabolism
The metabolic process of building up complex molecules from simpler ones.
Anaphylaxis
A severe, life-threatening allergic reaction that occurs rapidly and requires immediate treatment.
Anatomical Position
The standard way the body is positioned when using anatomical terminology (standing, with feet slightly apart, arms to the side, and the head, eyes, and palms of the hands facing forward).
Androgen
The male hormone that is responsible for the development of male characteristics.
Anemia
A condition in which there is a deficiency of red blood cells or hemoglobin, leading to fatigue and weakness.
Aneurysm
A localized, abnormal bulge or ballooning in the wall of a blood vessel, which can rupture and cause serious complications.

Chest pain or discomfort due to reduced blood flow to the heart muscle.
Angiogram
An imaging test that uses X-rays to view blood vessels after injecting a contrast dye.
Angiotensin
A plasma protein that raises one's blood pressure and causes the adrenal gland to release aldosterone.
Ankylosing Spondylitis
A condition in which spinal joints fuse together and reduce spinal mobility.
